3D render of mini flashlight progress 2

I was able to finish the batteries and the magnetic top. I also got the part I am going to be subtracting from the screw top to give it the hatch effect.

Laser cut of surface design

Here is a 4" x 4" tile of my surface design. I decided not to cut the entire thing out of the block because the branches that are attacked to the outside edge would have fallen off as they aren't attached to the main piece.

Mini flashlight 3D render progress

Here's some progress pics for the reverse engineered object. I decided to go with the flashlight. Currently the only parts of this that are finished are the battery cover and the jump ring. I am currently working on the magnetic top and bottom.

Reversed Engineered Model Choices

For this project we have to find an object from daily life and recreate it as a 3D model in Rhino. I have chosen three different objects that I believe I could recreate, a flower hair clip, a pen, and a mini flashlight.   This is the hair clip. Its only got four parts, the flower, the bottom part of the clip, the pin, and a spring. I think it would be easy enough to model the pin and the spring, but with my current skills I think trying to render the flower and bottom of the clip would be a bit of a challenge.  This is the pen. I think it could be interesting to figure out how the pieces all go together. There would also be a bit of a challenge with the curve of the body and the grip.  Here's the mini flashlight. This object is the one I'm leaning more towards for the project. It has some simple cylinder shapes that I could easily rendered. But I think it would be interesting to try to render the clip, and the spring on the inside of the flashlight.

Surface design flowing flower

here's my inspiration  I took inspiration from the flowery and scaly designs above and geometric elements from the three below. I found the colours here interesting as well as the flowers. There's something neat about circles and I wanted to copy that.   Here is the finished design. I mainly used arrays and rotate copy to create the initial design. Then I hatched it and grouped hatches of the same colour together.
