Lilypond Chess Set 3D Render of Mini Flashlight Surface Design Castle

Lilypond Chess set final

Here are the finished prints for my lilypond chess set. I decided to paint them with nail polish because i thought that the plain plastic missed a little bit of the details and was too plain. from left to right you have the pawn, bishop, knight, rook, king, and queen.  I added a fly in thread to the king and the butterfly on the queen is laser cut acrylic.  here are some renders of my chess pieces side by side and laid out on the board below are some images from the printing and laser cutting processes. The machine I was using ran out of the white I did for my first prints so I had to switch to black for my final ones. I printed the pawn, bishop, knight, and king in white.  Below are some initial designs in rhino and my original sketches. I listened to some of my peers and ended up printing the kings tongue separately so that it wouldn't have any issues with printing.   My original sketches Here are a few of the pieces after being printed. There is a little hole in the frogs mouth

Our next project is to make some pieces for a 3D printed chess set and I've decided to make a lotus pond with some frogs and butterflies.   from top left to right in the chart is the pawn, bishop, knight, rook, king, and queen. If we are able to make the pieces with different colours I would add a post to the lily pads and holes for the posts in the frogs and lotuses so that they can be made with different colours. I haven't made something this complicated to be 3D printed before so I am not quite sure if these designs will need supports or it the angles have enough underneath them that the top won't fall off. I know the butterfly would probably be the most difficult to print so I might have to lay each wing flat and come up with some way to join them after. The same goes for the frog tongue and fly.  In any case I am looking forward to figuring it out.    The original design just had the lily pad, the lotus, and the butterfly, but I thought it looked just a little plain s

Mini Flashlight complete render

The completed project renders for the mini flashlight. The renders took quite a while but I am really happy they turned out.  Because the mini flashlight is cylindrical and symmetrical, I opted to do more exploded views so you could see the different parts of it. Rather than multiple assembled views that show the same thing.  In the above photo you can see (from left to right) the flashlight body, spring, batteries, battery casing, screw top, bottom magnet, magnet top, casing for magnet top, and a jump ring. The flashlight is able to be a key chain so I added the jump ring in to show that possibility.                Everything in their proper casings, above.  And a close up of the battery detail, below.                Assembled view, below. For some of the parts like the magnets and the screws as well as the "light" part of the flashlight, were created with separate surfaces so that I could render them with the correct material. I was unable to measure some parts of the flash
